Cornwall, Ontario – High school and post-secondary students looking to broaden their experience and skillset this summer can now apply for funding and support to help them start a small business.

Summer Company is a program funded by the Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade which provides high school and post-secondary students with start-up costs to launch a new summer business. Throughout the program, ongoing advice and mentorship are provided by Cornwall SDG Business Enterprise Centre and local business leaders to help participants start and manage their business.

Learning how to create and operate a business is one of the best summer jobs a student can have. Program participants have the opportunity to be their own boss while learning what it takes to manage a business. Sales, marketing, bookkeeping, customer relationship management and networking are just a few of the highly useful skills participants will develop.

“Starting a business is such a great way to learn valuable life skills and build confidence,” says Erika Randolph, Cornwall SDG Business Enterprise Centre’s Program Administrator. “Summer Company provides students with a unique opportunity to transform their ideas into reality, with the goal of sustaining their business and nurturing their entrepreneurial spirit.”

Eligibility
To be eligible for the Summer Company program, participants must:
• be a high school or post-secondary student when they apply, and must be returning to school in the fall;
• be a resident of Cornwall, SDG, or Akwesasne;
• be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident;
• be between 15-29 years old (if under 18, a parent or guardian must sign the agreement for the applicant);
• not already be operating a business, and;
• not be working at another job and/or attending school for more than 12 hours per week during the Summer Company program.

Financial Support
Students who are accepted into the Summer Company program will receive up to $1,500 up-front to help with start-up costs. An additional $1,500 will be available for participants who successfully complete the program requirements by the end of the summer. In total, successful Summer Company participants will receive up to $3,000 in grant awards.

How to Apply
Those interested in applying for this year’s Summer Company Program must submit applications by May 15th, 2026. Cornwall SDG Business Enterprise Centre encourages those interested to submit applications as early as possible to have the best chance of being accepted.

Cornwall, Ontario – Les élèves du secondaire et du postsecondaire qui souhaitent élargir leurs expériences et leurs compétences cet été peuvent maintenant demander du financement et du soutien pour les aider à démarrer une petite entreprise.

Entreprise d’été est un programme financé par le ministère du Développement économique, de la Création d’emplois et du Commerce qui fournit aux élèves du secondaire et du postsecondaire des fonds de démarrage pour lancer une nouvelle entreprise d’été. Tout au long du programme, des conseils continus et du mentorat sont offerts par le centre d’affaires de Cornwall SDG et des chefs d’entreprise locaux afin d’aider les participants à démarrer et gérer leur entreprise.

Apprendre à créer et exploiter une entreprise est l’un des meilleurs emplois d’été qu’un étudiant puisse avoir. Les participants au programme ont l’occasion d’être leur propre patron tout en découvrant ce qu’il faut pour gérer une entreprise. Les ventes, le marketing, la tenue de livres, la gestion des relations clients et le réseautage ne sont que quelques-unes des compétences très utiles que développeront les participants.

« Démarrer une entreprise est une excellente façon d’acquérir de précieuses compétences de vie et de bâtir sa confiance », déclare l’administratrice du programme du Cornwall SDG Business Enterprise Centre. « Entreprise d’été offre aux étudiants une occasion unique de transformer leurs idées en réalité, avec l’objectif de soutenir leur entreprise et de nourrir leur esprit entrepreneurial. »

Admissibilité
Pour être admissibles au programme Entreprise d’été les participants doivent :
• être un élève du secondaire ou du postsecondaire lorsqu’ils présentent leur demande, et retourner à l’école à l’automne ;
• être résident de Cornwall, SDG ou Akwesasne ;
• être citoyen canadien ou résident permanent ;
• être âgé de 15 à 29 ans (si moins de 18 ans, un parent ou tuteur doit signer l’entente pour le demandeur) ;
• ne pas déjà exploiter une entreprise ;
• ne pas travailler à un autre emploi ou fréquenter l’école plus de 12 heures par semaine durant le programme.

Soutien financier
Les étudiants acceptés au programme Entreprise d’été recevront jusqu’à 1 500 $ à l’avance pour les coûts de démarrage. Un montant supplémentaire de 1 500 $ sera offert aux participants qui satisfont aux exigences du programme d’ici la fin de l’été. Au total, les participants recevront jusqu’à 3 000 $ en subventions.

Comment présenter une demande
Les personnes intéressées à présenter une demande pour le programme Entreprise d’été doivent soumettre leur demande avant le 15 mai 2026. Le centre d’affaires de Cornwall SDG encourage les personnes intéressées à soumettre leur demande le plus tôt possible afin d’augmenter leurs chances d’être acceptées.
