Cornwall, ON – Guided by a strong work ethic, meticulous attention to detail, and a commitment to achieving natural, refined results, Nurse Practitioner, Lannie Mitchell is providing medical aesthetics and therapeutic treatments to Cornwall, Akwesasne, and surrounding areas at her clinic, Sweetgrass & Soul Medical Aesthetics.
Lannie Mitchell began her career as a Registered Nurse 36 years ago and has been a Nurse Practitioner for the past 18 years. Her professional background includes extensive experience in primary care across local, northern, and northwestern Ontario communities. While Sweetgrass & Soul has been operating since 2023, the current clinic location opened in August 2025. “[Sweetgrass & Soul] was created to allow for more meaningful client connections and a more personalized approach to care,” says Lannie. Sweetgrass & Soul offers a range of advanced, evidence-based aesthetic and therapeutic treatments including neuromodulators, collagen-stimulating threads, biostimulators, and IV Hydration, among other specialized skincare treatments and products.
The clinic’s name holds both personal and cultural significance. “I wanted a name to reflect the culture that is part of the Akwesasne community,” says Lannie. “Sweetgrass”, often referred to as the hair of Mother Earth, symbolizes peace, kindness, and healing. It is traditionally used in basketry and beading, and its calming scent holds strong personal memories of Lannie’s grandmother. The addition of “Soul” reflects Lannie’s intention to provide care grounded in deep respect for each individual client. It represents the belief that every person has a unique and meaningful presence, and that self-care is an important part of nurturing one’s inner balance and well-being.
As one of the only First Nations Nurse Practitioners in the region providing medical aesthetic services, Lannie brings a unique perspective to her business, rooted in cultural values, respect, and connection. “I wanted to have the business located within the Territory of Akwesasne. As a Nurse Practitioner in Ontario, the only location for operation had to be on Kawehnoke (Cornwall Island)”, says Lannie. The clinic is easily accessible from Ontario, Quebec and New York State.
Sweetgrass & Soul Medical Aesthetics received financial and business support from the Tewatohnhi’saktha Business Loan Fund via Kahnawake Economic Development and the ACESS Program.
