Cornwall, ON – The Emard family welcomed contractors, local dignitaries, valued staff, and longtime friends into their store this month to celebrate a century of building strong communities.

A hundred years ago, Joe and George Emard opened the doors to a humble business on Hazel Street in Cornwall. Today, the business has grown to a sprawling lumberyard and modern hardware store on Tenth Street, complete with a Kitchen and Bath Showroom and a Doors and Windows Studio. In recent years, the operation has also added satellite locations in nearby Ingleside and Morrisburg.  It is a business achievement that is rare and deserves celebration.

Maurice Emard, 88, the oldest living family member connected to the business, joined third-generation leaders Chris and Andrew, and fourth-generation Hannah and Casey, along with staff, customers and community partners for the special moment. Cornwall Mayor Justin Towndale, South Dundas Mayor Jason Broad, and South Stormont Mayor Bryan McGillis, all delivered brief remarks that touched on the company’s critical role in driving the economic vibrancy of the region.

“The best part of the day was seeing all these people together: our community leaders, the mayors of Cornwall, Morrisburg, and Ingleside, our best customers, our best contractors, our good friends, and our family, our valued staff,” said Chris Emard, who is part of the third-generation of family members to work for the company. “A big thank you to the community that helped us over the past 100 years. Without this community of people, we wouldn’t have made it. We look forward to many more years together.”

A highlight of the event was the unveiling of the Strong Foundations Fund, a new philanthropic initiative aimed at supporting local youth pursuing careers in the trades. Hannah Emard announced the inaugural $5,000 donation to St. Matthew’s Catholic Secondary School’s Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) Construction Program. Two students from the program accepted the cheque, alongside Principal Patrick McLeod.

“We’re exceptionally grateful to get such a large donation,” said Mr. McLeod. “It will allow our SHSM students to continue to thrive and learn the skills required by the trade.”
