Cornwall Ontario – Marigolds are said to symbolize positivity and that is exactly the feeling Christine McCool and Mallory MacDonald have created with Marigold Market.
The new retail store located in South Lancaster specializes in locally made products and showcases the work of local artists, artisans, and vendors – all the while stocking a wide range of Canadian-made products.
The mother-daughter team opened Marigold Market in October 2021 with the goal of providing a unique, warm and inviting shopping experience to shoppers, while supporting the community and surrounding area.
“We hope to offer customers a range of unique and one-of-a-kind products while supporting our local community and being environmentally conscious,” says Ms. McCool who owns Marigold along with daughter. “We know that shopping local and being eco-conscious is becoming increasingly important to consumers, and we proudly prioritize both.”
Marigold Market is located just off Highway 401 in South Lancaster just east of Cornwall. The cozy market is housed in a distinctive gabled building – the former Auld Kirktown store, which has been a popular retail destination for many years. Ms. McCool is a South Glengarry resident, and chose her location based on its position at the heart of a strong, tight-knit community and its rich retail history.
With a new coat of crisp white paint, the building welcomes customers with a modern and inviting entrance. Inside visitors can expect to find quality craftmanship and creative items throughout the store, including a small gallery with new artwork displayed every few weeks.
“Marigold Market offers gifts, home décor, gourmet pantry items, kitchen essentials, eco-friendly products, pet products, accessories, art, and locally baked bread & fresh desserts,” says Ms. MacDonald. “We are proud to feature the work of over 50 local artisans, vendors and artists in our store and art gallery space. We also have a small café right inside our store that serves freshly brewed coffee, local tea, and handcrafted espresso beverages!”
