Cornwall, ON – The Cornwall SDG Business Centre (CBEC) welcomed a record 61 participants at the recent launch of its Starter Company PLUS program – Fall Session 2025, marking the largest turnout in the program’s history. The strong response reflects the growing interest in entrepreneurship across Cornwall, SD&G, and Akwesasne.
“Seeing this level of engagement is inspiring,” said Mireille Lemire, Business Advisor with the Cornwall SDG Business Enterprise Centre. “It shows that a growing number of people in our region are ready to take the lead into business ownership. Our role is to provide them with the tools, training, and mentorship they need to succeed.”
About The Program
The Starter Company Plus program, delivered by the Cornwall SDG Business Enterprise Centre and funded by the Government of Ontario, offers aspiring and existing business owners the chance to:
- Receive hands-on business training and professional development
- Access one-on-one mentorship from experienced local business leaders
- Develop a robust business plan and financial forecast
- Compete for a micro-grant of up to $4,500 to help launch or grow their business
Since its inception, Starter Company PLUS has helped hundreds of local entrepreneurs turn their ideas into successful businesses, strengthening the region’s economy and creating new opportunities. A list of past Starter Company PLUS grant recipients is available online, showcasing the diverse range of businesses that have benefited from the program.
With such a strong start to this year’s program, anticipation is already building for the next cohort in Spring 2026. Applications are scheduled to open at the of January 2026. Interested entrepreneurs are encouraged to stay connected with CBEC for updates.
