Cornwall, Ontario – The Cornwall SDG Business Enterprise Centre is excited to announce the recent successful grant  recipients of the popular Starter Company Plus program.

The Starter Company Plus program provides free hands-on training for new entrepreneurs interested in start-up support for their business. The 12-week program is open to Cornwall, SDG and Akwesasne residents in the spring and fall. Funding is provided by the Province of Ontario and administered by the Cornwall Business Enterprise Centre (CBEC).

Participants receive assistance to start, grow, or buy a small business which includes training, mentoring and support provided by CBEC with help from local industry experts. A limited number of participants are invited to pitch their new business to a grant panel in order to qualify for the grant.  Applicants with the highest scores are eligible for the grant, which can be spent on equipment, supplies, marketing and a number of other business growth initiatives.

“The Starter Company Plus program has proven to be an excellent resource for local entrepreneurs looking to start or expand their business”, said Shauna Baggs, Cornwall Business Enterprise Centre. “It is always a pleasure to witness new entrepreneurs build on their business idea and develop confidence throughout the program. Working with such a wide variety of business owners across Cornwall, SDG and Akwesasne is very rewarding and I look forward to seeing all participating businesses succeed”.

The 2023 fall session was very competitive, with an initial enrollment of 51 entrepreneurs. Following weeks of hard work, only 10 participants were selected to pitch their business idea to the grant panel with seven participants receiving the grant up to $4,500.

The Starter Company PLUS program has been offered through the Business Enterprise Centre since late 2013. To date, the program has assisted 161 businesses and awarded $698,000 in grants.

Félicitations aux récipiendaires des subventions pour Starter Company Plus

Cornwall, Ontario – Le Cornwall SDG Centre D’Affaires est heureux d’annoncer les récents récipiendaires de subventions du populaire programme Starter Company Plus.

Le programme Starter Company Plus offre une formation pratique gratuite aux nouveaux entrepreneurs intéressés par un soutien au démarrage de leur entreprise. Le programme de 12 semaines est ouvert aux résidents de Cornwall, SDG et Akwesasne au printemps et à l’automne. Le financement est fourni par la province de l’Ontario et administré par le Cornwall Business Enterprise Centre (CBEC).

Les participants reçoivent une aide pour démarrer, développer ou acheter une petite entreprise, qui comprend une formation, un mentorat et un soutien fournis par le CBEC avec l’aide d’experts locaux de l’industrie. Un nombre limité de participants sont invités à présenter leur nouvelle entreprise à un panel de subventions afin de pouvoir bénéficier de la subvention. Les candidats ayant obtenu les scores les plus élevés sont éligibles à la subvention, qui peut être consacrée à l’équipement, aux fournitures, au marketing et à un certain nombre d’autres initiatives de croissance de l’entreprise.

« Le programme Starter Company Plus s’est avéré être une excellente ressource pour les entrepreneurs locaux qui cherchent à démarrer ou à développer leur entreprise », a déclaré Shauna Baggs, du Cornwall Business Enterprise Centre. « C’est toujours un plaisir de voir de nouveaux entrepreneurs bâtir sur leur idée d’entreprise et développer leur confiance tout au long du programme. Travailler avec une telle diversité de propriétaires d’entreprises à Cornwall, SDG et Akwesasne est très gratifiant et j’ai hâte de voir toutes les entreprises participantes réussir.

La session d’automne 2023 a été très compétitive, avec une inscription initiale de 51 entrepreneurs. Après des semaines de travail acharné, seuls 10 participants ont été sélectionnés pour présenter leur idée d’entreprise au jury de subventions, sept participants recevant une subvention pouvant aller jusqu’à 4 500 $.
