Cornwall, Ontario – Mabuhay Kabayan, a traditional Filipino grocery store has opened its doors in Maplewood shopping Plaza.  The lower-level storefront offers a firsthand Philippine experience for Cornwall residents and its growing Filipino population.

The grocery store offers a variety of prepacked foods, drinks and condiments as well as frozen products such as processed pork, fish and tropical vegetable blends.

Owned and operated by Lorenna Lepage, Mariciris Salanga and Jane Del Mar, the group is happy to bring something uniquely Philippine to the Cornwall community.

Originally from the Philippines, Lorena Lepage has been a Cornwall Resident for the past 16 years and was excited at the opportunity to provide for Cornwall and its surrounding Community.  “Cornwall has embraced what we have to offer,” said Lepage.  “We have regular customers from Alexandria and Hawkesbury come to see us,” she added.

Since opening their doors in June of 2023, they have built a solid reputation and are continually looking to expand their product.  “Even if we don’t have what you’re looking for, we will look to find it or offer alternatives,” says Lepage.  For those unfamiliar with this type of cuisine, staff are committed to helping customers and offering advice to achieve your desired food goals.  “If you need a step by step, we’re going to help you,” she added.

The ownership group would love to expand their space in the future to allow for more inventory and potentially homemade foods, however they are happy with how the business has grown so far.  “Our location has great space for parking and is very accessible for our customers,” says Lepage.
