Cornwall Ontario – Downtown Cornwall is welcoming a new store specializing in vintage clothing and housewares from the 50’s to 80’s with a strong focus on the 60’s and 70’s.
Wonderflea Vintage will be located at 23 Second Street East in just west of the Cornwall Public Library. Owner Dana De Kuyper has created a cozy, sunny shop with vibrant orange walls that is bright and welcoming.
“Running a vintage store has been a longtime dream of mine.” says Ms. De Kuyper with a big smile. “I have been a collector, hoarder and huge fan of all things vintage for over 20 years.”
Ms. De Kuyper moved to Cornwall last year and discovered an opportunity to open a vintage store that carried older pieces dating as far back to the 1950’s. She found that many people in the community expressed an interest for more unique places to shop in the city and knew she had something to offer.
“After selling at Cornwall’s first Night Market this summer, I found people to be very excited about my selection of clothing and that encouraged me to take my dream further to open the store.”
Ms. De Kuyper has experience in the growing vintage retail market. She has a presence on Etsy and has had booths and popup shops in a variety of locations including Toronto, Prince Edward County and the Hamilton Antique Mall, which is one of the largest antique malls in Canada. The experience has given her the confidence to open a bricks and mortar store.
“I want shoppers to have a fun and happy shopping experience when they come into the store,” says Ms. De Kuyper. “I’m not a fan of grey or beige, so you won’t find much of that in Wonderflea Vintage! The everyday can be drab enough, so when designing the shop, I wanted to create a little escape with a pop of much needed colour.”
The official grand opening of Wonderflea Vintage is on Saturday, February 18th from Noon to 6pm.
