Cornwall ON – Local small agri-food producers, processors, and service providers can now apply for the Government of Ontario’s Food Safety and Growth Initiative Intake 2.

The Food Safety and Growth Initiative aims to support projects that stimulate business growth within the agriculture and food sector, through the modernization of current food safety systems and/or the adoption of new food safety equipment, technologies, or practices.

Successful applicants can access up to 50% of eligible project costs up to a maximum of $75,000 per project.

The deadline to apply is March 1, 2027, or until all available funding is allocated.

Businesses seeking to strengthen food safety measures while supporting growth and operational improvements may be eligible for funding through the initiative.

The Food Safety and Growth Initiative is delivered through the Government of Ontario, supported by the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (Sustainable CAP).

Eligibility

Projects must stimulate business growth in the agriculture and food sector by doing 1 or more of the following:

  • modernizing food safety systems
  • adopting new food safety and traceability equipment, technologies and standards

Projects must take place at facilities that produce, process or service food products listed. It is not a requirement for facilities to exclusively handle these products. However, the eligible costs must be directly tied to an eligible food product as a final product at the end stage of handling at the project location.
