Cornwall, Ontario – Nearly 250 community and business leaders gathered this weekend at the Ramada to celebrate the Business Excellence Awards and 53rd Citizen of the Year.
The annual tradition aims to recognize and celebrate the contributions of outstanding businesses and community leaders who have played a pivotal role in fostering growth, economic development, and community engagement.
Business Excellence Award Winners
As in recent years, a short list of nominees in each category were recognized before the announcement of this year’s award winners. The following companies, organizations and individuals received the ultimate accolades this year:

- Lifetime Achievement: Emard Bros. Lumber

President’s Award
The career of Dr. Peter Tropea was honoured with the President’s Award, an award that is not always handed out. Dr. Tropea is a well-respected local vet who is beloved in the community for the superior care he has provided to thousands of dogs and cats over his career.
Citizen of the Year
Mike Turcotte was named 2024 Citizen of the Year. A well-known medical professional and founder of the Foot & Ankle Clinic in Cornwall, Mr. Turcotte has contributed countless hours to serving on local boards, coaching minor sports and supporting charitable organizations. He is perhaps best known for putting on the Ghost Walk for Charity, an annual Halloween event that has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for local charities.
