Cornwall Ontario – A new store has opened in Cornwall – just in time for holiday giving and gaming.
Cornwall Gaming is a gamer’s delight, featuring a growing inventory of trading card games (TCG), tabletop role-playing games, and modern board games – as well as a public gaming space for enthusiasts to gather and play games. Product highlights include singles and boxed collectables for Magic The Gathering and Pokémon, miniatures and playbooks for Dungeons & Dragons and Pathfinder, and a larger selection of try-before-you-buy boardgames.
“There was a real need for a games supply store and space in Cornwall,” said Doug Cox, owner of Cornwall Gaming. “I have always loved collectable card games but never felt the local stores had everything I was looking for. My new business was created specifically with the game collector and player in mind, and I hope the unique offerings help to grow the gaming communities in Cornwall.”
A Morrisburg local, Mr. Cox has enjoyed a rich career path and has experience in engineering, purchasing, and health care. Looking for a change and with support from his family, Cox decided to take the leap into entrepreneurship earlier this year. His vision became a reality when he secured the 2000 sf space at Fourth Street West and Cumberland Street.
“I wanted a small retail space and lots of playing space for games, something I found with this unique unit,” explained Cox. “Right now, I have enough space to host roughly 30 players at a time, and we have been almost full every night since our soft opening last month.”
Community play is a major part of the business model, and Mr. Cox welcomes gamers during opening hours to come play with their personal collections or from a selection of games to rent for $10 per session. The space is open Wednesday to Sunday, with each day structured around a specific game genre. Most days are free to play, but some evenings have an entry fee which is put towards a prize draw at the end of the night. The full calendar of events is updated on the website and on social media.
“Our calendar of events will change over time and is based on feedback from my customers,” said Mr. Cox. “At the end of the day, I just want to help bring people together to have fun.”
