Ahead of its October 22nd launch, the Ontario government has released its COVID-19 vaccine verification app, ‘Verify Ontario,’ and has begun rollout of the Enhanced Vaccine Certificate.
What is an enhanced vaccine certificate?
- The enhanced vaccine certificate is an easier and more convenient way to provide your proof of vaccination.
- Each enhanced vaccine certificate contains a SMARTⓇ Health Card QR code that businesses can easily scan at the door.
- The Verify Ontario app is used to scan the QR code will only tell businesses if a person can enter their venue or not.
- The Verify Ontario app does not allow the Ontario government or businesses to track or save personal and identifiable information.
To ensure a smooth user experience, the province is initially making the enhanced vaccine certificate with scannable QR code available for download in cohorts based on an individual’s birth month over a period of three days:
- January to April: October 15
- May to August: October 16
- September to December: October 17
As of October 18 at 6:00 a.m., the enhanced vaccine certificates will be available for all vaccinated Ontarians to download.
What you’ll need:
- Green photo health card
- Expired cards are accepted.
- You’ll need the numbers from both the front and back of the card.
The Verify Ontario app allows fully vaccinated Ontarians to verify their vaccination status through a QR code when entering businesses and other establishments.
A green checkmark indicates that someone has been verified, a yellow checkmark means there is an issue (such as glare preventing a proper read of the barcode) and an ‘X’ relates to invalid vaccination certification.
The Verify Ontario App is available in the iOS App Store and the Google Play Store.
