Cornwall Ontario – Washing our hands is one the most important things we can do to stay healthy and limit the spread of the COVID-19 corona virus. And Cornwall’s Ground Soap is making it easier for people to pick up their award winning line of organic soaps.

With many of its retail partners having to temporarily shut their doors, Ground Soap has set up an outdoor no-touch pick up schedule at its Cornwall facility so people can get the soap they need. You can also purchase their soap online.

“We all have a role to play in helping keep our communities safe,” says Angela Youngs, the founder of Ground Soap. “We wanted to make it as easy as possible for people to purchase our products in a safe way.”

Ground Soap will be offering weekly “local pick up” on Mondays, starting this week. Orders need to be placed before noon on the previous Sunday via www.groundsoap.com. Customers can choose the “free local pick up” option at checkout. Delivery options include mail.

The corona virus is transmitted through the air in virus-laden droplets propelled by coughs and sneezes. The virus can land on surfaces and stay alive for hours or even days. Our hands can pick up those droplets from any number of surfaces, so they’re often an important link in the chain of transmission. Hand washing has been highlighted by health officials as being extremely important in limiting the spread of viruses.

Why Washing with Soap Works
Germs stick to the oils and grease on our hands. Water alone won’t remove much of the germs on our hands because water and oil don’t like each other, so they won’t mix. When you wash your hands with soap, the soap molecules binds the oil and dirt with the water. When you rinse everything off, the soap carries away the germs with the water.

The water does not have to be scalding hot to be effective – better to use cold or lukewarm water and keep washing for longer – more and more bacteria and virus will be washed away for every 5 seconds you keep your hands under the tap.

Even people who are conscientious about washing their hands make the mistake of not drying them properly. Wet hands are more likely to spread germs than dry ones. It takes about 20 seconds to dry your hands well if you’re using paper or cloth towels and 30–45 seconds under an air dryer.
