Summer Company Business Launch

Young entrepreneurs open for business through Summer Company program

Nine students from Cornwall and SD&G are turning their business ideas into reality this summer through the Summer Company program.

All nine businesses will be officially launched at a kick-off celebration Friday, June 27th, 2014 at the Summer Company Headquarters located at 365 Montreal Road. The official launch will take place at 11 am, however students will be on hand until 2 pm to profile their businesses.  Everyone is welcome to stop in, meet these young entrepreneurs and learn about their businesses.

Funded by the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, Trade and Employment, and administered by the Cornwall Business Enterprise Centre, Summer Company encourages students to start and run their own business. In return, participants will receive $3,000 in start-up funding assistance along with hands-on coaching and mentoring from local business leaders. These young adults were selected to participate in the program after completing detailed business plans, including marketing and financial projections

“This program provides a great opportunity for our participants to develop entrepreneurial skills while making money at the same time,” said Candy Pollard, Business Consultant with the Cornwall Business Enterprise Centre. “Through Summer Company, we are helping to train the business leaders of tomorrow.”

This year’s Summer Company participants will provide services such as make-up and nails, an arts based summer camp, grass cutting and property maintenance.  Other businesses will produce hand turned wooden bowls, Mexican and Venezuelan food, clothing sales and comicon type special event called CoTiCon.

New this year is the Summer Company Headquarters located in Le Village at 365 Montreal Road.

“We are excited to have this storefront on Montreal Road,” said Ms. Pollard.  “It is a great location which provides space for our young entrepreneurs to work out of both promoting and selling their goods and services.  We are very grateful to the building owner, Mr. Paul Boosamra for partnering with us and making the headquarters a reality for this summer.”

Several of the Summer Company participants will be working out of the Headquarters at 365 Montreal Road as well as selling their products and services by way of special events and fairs throughout the region.
