Cornwall based tech-company FanSaves just earned themselves a fan-tastic opportunity: a top 100 position in a prestigious entrepreneurial competition.
The company will travel to Boston, Massachusetts for TechCo’s Startup of the Year Competition, set to take place from October 15th to the 17th. The competition has gained clout since launching in 2006 and offers participants the chance to network with and gain visibility within the global startup community. In 2017, the top 100 finalists were comprised of startups from 46 countries.
After an initial application was submitted, the pitch went through a review process including judges, readers, and a live audience. This panel decided that FanSaves deserved a spot in the top 100 startups of the year.
“We are beyond excited! This is like the Olympics of Startup Competitions! We applied months ago on a whim and could have only dreamed to be part of this elite group of startups” said Shannon Ferguson, FanSaves CEO.
FanSaves is a free mobile app that lets you team up with your favourite sports teams and gain access to great local deals! The company was founded by Shannon Ferguson and Kris McCarthy and officially launched in February of 2018 with two teams attached to the app: the Watertown Wolves and the Cornwall Nationals.
With the dissolution of the Nationals, the company made a strong pivot by aligning themselves with Cornwall Tourism to offer locals deals at over 40 establishments. They were also successful participants in the Cornwall Business Enterprise Centre’s Starter Plus Program.
FanSaves has made huge moves since launch, recently having meetings with the Ottawa Senators and the organization that represents the Ottawa Redblacks, Fury and 67’s.
“The fact that we’ve been having such positive meetings with these big teams is really reassuring and it’s great they see the value that FanSaves can bring to their teams,” said FanSaves COO, McCarthy.
The Startup of the Year Competition will put FanSaves on the path of international success, but they aim to always call Cornwall home.
“Our goal is to bring lots of jobs to Cornwall, specifically in the tech and marketing sectors. We have chosen this city for our headquarters and we have a lot of people interested in joining our team. We believe that we can really put Cornwall on the map with FanSaves” said Ferguson.
Be on the lookout for a redesign for the app set to be unveiled in early October of 2018. FanSaves is available for free on both the Google PlayStore and the Apple App Store.
