Many budding entrepreneurs look to the Cornwall Business Enterprise Centre (CBEC) for assistance in starting a business. Proper planning and gaining business skills can be the difference between the success or failure of a company. That’s why CBEC found it important to partner with the Cornwall Downtown Business Improvement Area (DBIA) for the “Win This Space” competition to offer hands on training and mentorship so that every participant leaves with a broader set of skills.

The competition will begin with 25 candidates who will receive six weeks of seminars through our centre. These seminars will prepare the businesses for success by teaching them how to create a business plan, forecast sales and manage their bookkeeping. These candidates will be pared down to five finalists who will undergo a televised pitch being broadcast by Cogeco’s Your TV. The sole winner will be awarded $1000 a month for an entire year to cover rent expenses in Cornwall’s beautiful downtown core.

The application form for the “Win This Space” competition can be found here on the DBIA website. Candidates must submit an entry into the competition by 4pm on August 3, 2018 to have their idea considered as part of the competition.

Those who are interested in the competition could also benefit by joining the Starter Plus program offered through the CBEC. This program is funded by the Province and sets entrepreneurs up for success by providing free seminars, one on one coaching and a grant of up to $5000. More information including eligibility requirements for the Starter Plus program can be found here.
